About us and our growing practices:

Our farm is family run and has been in existence since the late 1700s. The fruit, vegetable and greenhouse aspect of the operation has been building since 1996. Previous to that, we were primarily a dairy farm. Ted, Dan and Nate King run the operation.

While we are not certified as organic, we do follow organic pest control practices as much as possible. Most of our pest control is done through the use of beneficial insects and OMRI (organic materials research institute) approved products.

All of our fruits and vegetables are hand picked, hand washed and hand packed. This significantly reduces bruising and waste product.

We eat what we grow so you can be sure that what you buy from me is safe.

November 4th:

Pork, Pork, Pork... We have plenty available now at the Farmers' markets or from the farm. Call or email for the daily availibility.

October 28th
This is the last Sunday for CSA pickup in Sleepy Hollow. We will not be able to offer a winter share this year due to the losses we suffered from the heavy rain. The only items that I expect to have available through the winter are potatoes, greenhouse lettuce and probably beets for a couple of months.

September 5th

We have survivied the hurricane. We did have losses and damage but our loss pales in comparison to many other farmers in the area. It has indeed been a challenging year for anyone growing in the northeast (or the south...or the west..or China...or Australia...) well you get the idea.

July 1st:

Yesterday we lost our father Ted after a brief illness. Ted was the heart and sole of the the farm. He loved growing plants and raising animals. He loved to help people learn how to grow things as anyone who has ever visisted the farm can attest. His passion for the land and his general love of life itself will never be forgotten.

CSA pickups begin this weekend. We are picking lettuce, kale, purslane, strawberries, mint and oregano.

March 24th 2011.

Hopefully spring will arrive soon. The plants have been started in the greenhouse, the hydroponic tomatoes are about 18 inches tall now and we should begin picking them around Memorial Day.

Beef, pork and veal continues to move quickly so please place orders ahead of time.

CSA shares are still available for both Athens and Sleepy Hollow (Westchester). See the CSA page for more information.

January 12th, 2011

Mother nature is certainly dumping plenty of snow on us this year, that's a good thing though. It insulates the ground and provides plenty of springtime mositure for the new plants. The wind however did tear the plastic off of two greenhouses so we will be replacing that next month. Besides that things are about normal for a farm this time of year.

We are busy seeding already. The hydroponic tomato plants have just emerged, we have seeded some herbs and bedding plants too.

December 15th

Thanks to everyone who made this a great summer season despite the lack of rain (at least when we needed it).

There are two more Dag Hammarskjold and one more Cadman plaza and Fort Greene markets left this year. In January and February we will be at Dag on Wednesdays and Fort Greene on Saturdays.

Grass fed beef continues to sell out quickly so it is best to reserve your cuts in advance.

If you have thoughts on what vegetables you would like to see us grow for 2011, feel free to email me. We are always looking for new ideas.
